One step Forward

My regular visitors should notice today that I “turned the lights out” on my blog. This is a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour.

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Vancouver, Toronto, New York, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.

I’ve turned the lights out. Now it’s your turn.

Umm, I thought it was Spring already. Why are there fat snow flakes falling down to earth? We just had easter, why did the weather suddenly decide it was not finished with Winter and start to snow yet again? You are even deciding to let the snow stick on the ground! What are you thinking…. At least I have not put away my snow gear and warm winter clothing.

I went and bought a wireless router for my Wii today. The set up was so easy, I even set it up so it was locked and not an open connection.

I am writing this post on my Wii. It is not as hard to type as I thought it would be. It is hard, I just want to be able to type fasted with minamal mistakes. With every word I have had to correct it.

I love being able to go online and browse the net. If anyone has z Wii and wamts to mingle email mebyour friend code!

I felted/fulled my current knitting project last night. The results did not turn out as I had expected, but that is because of my own lack of attention to check the amount of shrinkage the first time around, rather than tossing it back into the hot wash for another few minutes. At least it turned into something interesting, though I am out of all my wool I will have to go to my local yarn shop to do buy some more. Perhaps this time around I will knit a much larger bag, I’m thinking a giant flat panel where I would sew the sides and bottom all together to make the bag.

You can see a picture of my finished project in my flickr.

It is currently Spring Break and the weather certainly is not saying the same thing. Where are the flowers, the green grass, the sunshine? There was so much rain yesterday, as well as a cold wind. It felt like the beginnings of winter. I really hope that the weather takes a proper turn for the rest of the week, especially Easter Weekend. I do not want miserable weather for when I am up at the cabin…

I have been knitting like a mad woman these last few days. As I have ravelry to blame. I love that site!

Felted BaguetteI am currently working on a felted baguette. I had purchased the pattern online almost a year ago and have never gotten around to making it. I have even had the yarn I am using for almost the same amount of time. I knitted like mad the other night where I managed to get at least 75% of it completed.

I am planning to have it all done by the end of the weekend, and even the felting process as well. As I have done more research on how to properly felt. My last attempt failed miserably.

Speaking of finished projects, I have finished the toque I have been working on for Bryan. I am so happy with the way it turned out as I had created the pattern for it. I still have one and a half balls of the yarn I used left, I do not know at the moment what I am planning on doing with it. Perhaps a scarf, or another toque.

I recently went out and purchased the program so then me and my boyfriend could file our taxes. The only thing I do not like about the program is that it shows you your refund amount as you are enterting information. At one point I was up to over two thousand dollars back, but then after entering a few more tax forms I guess I went up to another tax bracket, and then that number dropped drastically to well below five hunderd.

I even went about filing as living common law, which we are under the legal terms of it all, though the shitty part is that only one of us can claim for the GST tax credit (which is extra money paid out four times in a year) Though even at one point while filing taxes for both of us, we had our return up to $4000, which then obviously quickly dropped as I continued to enter more financial earnings.

Why does filing your taxes have so many ups and downs on the emotional roller coaster?

Last night I had the strangest dream. I had a dream about yarn. Not just any ordinary knitting yarn, but Bernat Felting Natural Wool. I have yet to buy some of this great looking yarn, though I certainly have a lot of great project ideas for it. I do not recall any major details of this yarn dream, just that I was looking at at least eight balls of the stuff and holding and hugging them and of course knitting with it. I really do hope that this yarn is as soft as I thought it was in my dream. I am planning on buying some this weekend, and it does not matter about the price, I want to make a felted bag.

Speaking of yarn and knitting. I have been actively working on a toque for Bryan. I am nearly finished, I just need to pull myself together and get it completed. There are only a few minor mistakes with it, but do I really need to frog the whole thing? I know Bryan will like it no matter what, even if there is a few different stitches in places that they should not be. This toque should have been finished along time ago, after I post this blog entry I am going to go and get it completed.

Are any of my trusty visitors crafty? Knitting, Crocheting, Looming, etc… are you apart of Ravelry.com? If not then you really should go and sign up, it is so much fun and highly addictive!

I have finally gotten around to changing up my theme here at daydreamz.net. After doing some wrestling with the coding, and even after trying to rid it of some evil coding that I encountered in the sidebar.php file. I now have everything up and running smoothly.

This weekend has been pretty relaxing. Saturday Bryan and I woke up early and headed out to my grandmas place so we can take her out for lunch. She loved having us out there, as she lives two hours away from any other family members an yet hardly anyones heads out to visit her. If they do, they take her to places that they want to go for meals or shopping. I could really tell that she was happy to take us to the quite little neighbourhood restaurant that she visits on occasion with her friends and even the waitress seemed to know my grandma. My grandma is awesome, full of funny stories that you would never imagine hearing a grandmother tell. Rude stories, funny/odd/questionable memories etc. I’m glad she still has it all going for her ‘upstairs’. I told her when we left that if she is ever in the mood for some fine dining, or company, or just to let us know that our next visit it taking too long she could always phone us up and we will be there in a snap.

That evening we went out a friends place, as she was in town from England. We had dinner at her parents place and wow, the food was delicious. My friend and her fiancée are chefs over in England and they made the dinner complete with homemade cheesecake. I had also learned something new that night as well. Did you know that Shepard’s Pie is made with Lamb, while Cottage Pie is made with Beef? I never knew that, I always thought Shepard’s Pie was beef and that Cottage Pie never existed. I am not tempted to head out to various restaurants and order Shepard’s Pie and complain when it comes with Beef and not Lamb.

Here I am sitting waiting for my landlord to phone me. Our bathtub faucet has been leaking behind the tiles and constantly dripping cold water. Our landlord came over last night to fix it by replacing it. He did not get the job finished as I guess it was either getting late and he needed a few other tools.

I told him that I leave for work at 10:00am, an it is already 9am. I have no ability to take a shower, I might just resort to sticking my head in the sink to wash my hair. Ouch! This really sucks. I do not want to have to wait, and wait for him to phone and then to arrive, replace the damn thing, then have a shower.

Anyways, I do not enjoy being inconvenienced like this. I am off to stick my head under the sink. Ooh the fun I shall have….

This past Saturday Bryan and I woke up bright and early and heading up to Whistler for the day to do some snowboarding up on Blackcomb mountain. The drive was great, road conditions were excellent. Only had to stop a few times once for breakfast at Tim Hortons, and a few bathroom stops (I really should have taken the gravol before we left)…

When we finally arrived, we strapped on our boards, and headed straight up to the very top of the mountain. Where we rode hard all day long until we stopped for lunch. I nearly fell asleep at the table as I was so beat. It also did not help that I only had five hours of sleep the night before. The we continued to ride until it was closing time.

For Christmas Bryan had bought me a day lift ticket, so this day was sort of a date. It was great to get away just the two of us. We did invite some friends to come up with us but nobody called us. Whatever their loss. I have not had so much fun snowboarding in such a long time. The local mountains that I go to are nothing compared to world class Blackcomb.

The drive home was a little sketchy. The highway heading up there is currently being widened for the 2010 Olympic. The drive at night had me on edge the whole time. You would be driving and following the lines one minute, then the next your lane lines disappeared and seem to drive straight off a cliff, or into on coming traffic. No wounder there are so many deadly accidents there, you really have to be paying 110% of the time and absolutely no speeding. Yet there were a bunch of idiot drivers passing us, riding the ass of other cars, just being dangerous. We half expected to come across some of them a few minutes later ripped to shreds by a semi truck, or to have ripped a hole in the guard rail plunging down a cliff into the ocean. I’m happy we made it home safe.

I have uploaded all my Blackcomb pictures on to my flickr account. I will leave you with a few of my favorite shots taken that day.
